Chrys Salt

Skookum Jim and the Klondike Gold Rush

Online Event
Wed 30 Sep
11:00 UK
Free, ticketed

In this video event produced specially for the festival, poet Chrys Salt will take you on a journey to the wide open spaces of the Yukon, evoking the uncanny lore and landscape of the North Canadian wilderness. It puts in context the impact of the sudden stampede of ‘get rich quick’ prospectors, and adapts for new audiences the stories of the First Nation peoples who suffered its impacts on their way of life. A testament to the survival instincts of individuals and cultures.

About the author: Chrys Salt is a widely published and much travelled poet and was the International Poet at the Tasmanian Poetry Festival in 2019. She received an MBE for services to the arts in 2014 and splits her time between Galloway and London. She is keen to acknowledge the generous support of Creative Scotland which facilitated her research.
