Today, Jan Carson reads her short story “Soup” (15 min approx).

Jan Carson is a writer and community arts facilitator based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Her novel The Fire Starters won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland in 2019 and the Kitschies Prize for Speculative Fiction in 2020. It was shortlisted for the Dalkey Book Prize in 2020. The Last Resort, a ten-part BBC Radio 4 short story series is forthcoming from Doubleday in early 2021 and a novel, No Promised Land, in July 2021.

During the event, you can ask a question by using the box on the homepage, or in the chat box on YouTube (you'll need a google account for the latter).

Unless otherwise indicated, Children's events will be streaming to the Big Wig Facebook page.


If the event is free do I need to sign up?

No. You can go to our website or YouTube channel and watch most events without registering. However, it’s still worth signing up as you will be sent a link to the event and a reminder 30 minutes beforehand.
