In 1958, the geophysicist A.G. Lewis journeyed to the Antarctic. Inspired by his travels, his daughter Elizabeth Lewis Williams has created not only poetry but, with Storybook Productions, an incredible immersive experience. For the duration of the festival, Wigtown Gardens will be home to a life-sized replica polar hut where audiences can be mesmerised by in her words and transported to a tiny scientific outpost in the Southern Ocean named Deception Island.

In this session, Williams will talk about the inspiration and execution of her extraordinary project. She will also read from her new collection Erebus, which traces her father’s journeys from the Peninsula to Mt Erebus. In conversation with the writer and adventurer Robert Twigger. Supported by Arts Council England.
