Thank you for helping us celebrate our 20th year

At Wigtown Festival Company, we aspire to make Dumfries and Galloway a better place to be a reader and a writer - a place where literature changes lives. We'd like to thank you for helping us achieve this in 2018 by sponsoring our 20th Wigtown Book Festival, which took place from 21-30 September.

A boost to the local economy

Wigtown Book Festival is the largest festival of its kind in Dumfries & Galloway and the second largest literary festival in Scotland. With 250 events to choose from, last year's events exceeded an audience of 26,000 people, equating to more than 12,000 unique visitors. 57 per cent of visitors come from outside Dumfries & Galloway and 24 per cent from outside Scotland. In 2017, Wigtown Book Festival generated £3.2m for the local economy, a figure that has grown annually since 1999.

Wigtown Book Festival programme

The programme offers something for every interest including visual arts, biography, poetry, fiction, politics, food and drink, music, theatre and film. The Children's Festival (Big Wig) reaches more than 1,000 local and visiting families through 35 author and illustrator events and workshops. Our peer-programmed young adult events (WTF: Wigtown The Festival) attract an audience of 14-25 year olds to 20 events, and a new strand this year for 10-13s (Book Bridge) will develop an audience across six events with each programme including discussions, debates, workshops, literature, theatre and film.

Sponsoring Wigtown Book Festival

We welcome returning and new sponsors and would be very happy to discuss sponsorship opportunities which start at just £250 plus VAT for a single event sponsorship. Benefits include an invitation to the opening party, two complimentary tickets to an event of your choice and a name listing in the Festival programme, to name a few.

Other sponsorship opportunities

Wigtown Festival Company also organises a range of other projects and events throughout the year, which include the Big Bang science festival; Big DoG children's festival in Dumfries; Hooked, our day for young readers and writers; and our annual Writers' Gathering to support emerging writers in the region. Sponsorship for each of these individual events would also be welcome, or we can discuss an overall sponsorship package that will include all of our year-round events as well as the Book Festival.

Big Bang: 8-10 March 2019

Now in its third year, Big Bang brings together science, literature and the arts for a weekend of events and activities to inspire, entertain and inform the whole family. Big Bang takes place in the shoulder months of the year when Wigtown is traditionally quieter, aiming to increase footfall and support the local economy by bringing an audience of 1,000 people to explore the town and participate in the programme.

The 2019 programme includes: the Big Bang Supper; Alistair Tait's Life on Mars; Claire Barcham of the UK Space Agency on Scotland's Space Age; and Leo Enright discussing the Apollo Retrospective.

We would welcome your support as a sponsor for this year's Big Bang programme. If you're interested, please click here for more information (PDF download).

The deadline for sponsorship applications is Wednesday 30 January 2019.
