Help us celebrate Scotland's National Book Town.

A boost to the local economy

Wigtown Book Festival is the largest festival of its kind in Dumfries & Galloway and the second largest literary festival in Scotland. Since 1998, the festival has brought over 300,000 visitors to Wigtown and now generates £4.3m for the local economy each year. In 2019, our busiest year, we sold 29,500 tickets.

Wigtown Book Festival programme

The programme offers something for every interest including visual arts, biography, poetry, fiction, politics, food and drink, music, theatre and film. The Children's Festival (Big Wig) reaches more than 1,000 local and visiting families through 35 author and illustrator events and workshops. Our peer-programmed young adult literature events (Wigtown YA) attract an audience of 13-26 year olds.
