The Business of Literature

In October 2018, Wigtown Festival Company embarked on a three-year project with partner organisations from the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland and Iceland. The project is called Spot-lit and aims to put literary tourism on the map.

Spot-lit is funded under the EU's Northern Periphery and Arctic programme and will explore new approaches to literary tourism. Spot-lit aims to grow the literary tourism sector in the Northern Periphery and Arctic region by supporting the organisations and businesses in this culturally-rich region to grow, collaborate and better engage audiences together.

As part of the project, we will be working closely with Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust as they seek to make Dumfries a leading UK destination for those interested in children's literature. In autumn 2019, we will also be launching a scheme offering financial and mentoring advice to small and medium-sized businesses in Dumfries & Galloway who want to develop new literary tourism products - for example, tours or residential courses. We will announce workshop dates here over the next few weeks, so please check back soon.

More information and the latest updates can be found on the project's central website: www.spot-lit.eu.
