The Bride of Lammermoor

Festival Marquee
Sun 6 Oct

In September 1669, a terrible tragedy occurred at Baldoon Castle, just outside Wigtown. David Dunbar, heir to the estate, was found brutally stabbed to death. His wife Janet, daughter of the Viscount of Stair, went mad and died. The story would inspire the novelist Sir Walter Scott’s The Bride of Lammermoor and the opera Lucia di Lammermoor. To mark the 250th anniversary, and the end of the festival, this narrated concert intercuts the real story with Donizetti’s glorious music performed live. In association with Classical Musicians Scotland. [918]
