Settle down with a cup of something warm and listen to a 15-minute reading from one of a carefully selected group of writers. Many of them are award-winning, all of them are ground-breaking. What better way to spend your afternoon tea break?

Today, Kevin Barry reads from That Old Country Music, his new collection of short stories in which we encounter a ragbag of west of Ireland characters, many on the cusp between love and catastrophe, resignation and hope. These stories show an Ireland in flux but also a place where older rhythms, and an older magic, persist. (15 min approx.)

Kevin Barry is the author of three novels and two other short story collections. His awards include the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the Goldsmiths Prize and the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award. His work has appeared in the New Yorker, Granta and elsewhere. He lives in County Sligo,
