When you are called “Angela Carter’s natural inheritor” by Nicola Barker, you know you must be doing something right. Author Camilla Grudova has won praise for her latest novel Children of Paradise, set in a grungy independent cinema populated by a cast of eccentric and possibly disturbing oddballs. Perhaps it should come as no surprise that Grudova has worked as a cinema usherette herself but we won’t be making her check your tickets as you enter.
